A few years ago, I had the honor and opportunity to attend the memorial service of a gentleman who was 97 years old. His wife, who was 99 years old at the time, also attended the memorial service. They had been married for 70 years. That is, as we all know, a testament to the fact that there were days in their marriage when they were unhappy with each other.

We also know how amazing it must be to stay married to the same person for 70 years, filled with continual change, love, and life. We can only imagine the beauty of time and how love grows from a fling and a twinkle in their eyes into something so much more amazing and almost indescribable in words. It’s more than chemistry and roses. It’s about commitment, watching younger generations develop, and a love that is deep in the heart, soul, and mind. It’s about reaping acknowledgment, honor, and the title of being married to the same person for 70 years. No trophy was given to either person, but there should have been. Marriage and relationships are a lot of work. But there was the reward each of them felt many times over of having and being someone special to one another. Amazing love!
